Men: There has been a
dramatic growth in the men's program over the past three years. The third
Tuesday of each month finds a group of 25 or more men gathered for dinner,
fellowship, and an interesting
program.
Additionally, a hearty group of twenty men gather every Saturday morning for
breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Each group has its own special projects, sharing
generously of their time, talent, and money.
The Women of Westminster Presbyterian Church: The Presbyterian Women have long been a source of strength and generosity in the congregation. Three circles meet monthly to enjoy fellowship, Bible study, and to consider ways to aid the church and community. The annual Christmas Bazaar has become a highlight of the year as many women contribute homemade crafts and baked goods to raise money to help local efforts in the cause of abused women.
Youth of the Church: The Youth of Westminster Presbyterian Church are a vital part of the ministry of the congregation. Meeting weekly as Middle School Fellowship and as Senior High Fellowship, there are opportunities for sixth through twelfth graders to enjoy a well-rounded program of worship, service, study, and recreation. A new group, WEB (Westminster Elementary Believers) is for third through fifth graders and this will surely be a high energy gathering for all involved!
Jennifer Maffia is our Director of Youth Ministry and would be happy to answer your questions about this exciting ministry of our congregation.
Fellowship: Someone has said that those Presbyterians are always eating! We DO love to get together and break bread!!!! The Fellowship Committee of the church does an excellent job of providing opportunities for members and guests to gather for food, fellowship, and faith. During the year, you will find Pig Picking's, Chili Suppers, and Ice Cream Socials. A weekly Wednesday night supper during October and January through May has become a delightful way for members to get to know one another. Volunteers set up, cook up, and clean up this early evening program.
Christian Education: Westminster provides a graded program of educational opportunities for children, beginning with a well-staffed nursery for our youngest members. Children and youth enjoy classes led by committed volunteers who challenge and stimulate growth and understanding about who we are as Christians in today's world. Five adult classes offer a variety of ways to grow as men and women who seek to be faithful to our commitment to be life-long learners on our faith journey. Church school begins at 9:45 a.m.
Service: The first Saturday of May is Springfest. All year long, members of the congregation work toward this annual fund raiser which has been held for over sixteen years. A bake sale, biscuit sale, yard sale, plant sale, raffle, and auction combine to raise over $18,000.00 in 2009 which is all used in the community to provide for the needs of underprivileged school children. Westminster provides the funds for students who need eye glasses, shoes, school supplies, or whatever it takes to make their classroom experience a positive one. In addition, our congregation has an ongoing relationship with St. Barnabas school in Terrier Rouge, Haiti. Several work teams have visited the school in recent years to show our support for their work. Westminster provides support through its annual budget to over thirteen agencies in the community, such as Fayetteville Urban Ministry, the Homeless Coalition, the CARE clinic, the NC Radio Reading Service, and others. The lights are almost always on at Westminster as meeting space is provided for such groups as Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Alzheimer's Support Group, Neighborhood Community Watch, to name a few.
Keenagers: A "youthful" group of age 50+ who meet monthly for fun, food, and fellowship.
